President‘s Post Conference Address

This was a busy year in the SWWA as it was our 30th anniversary. We held seven regular board meetings over the course of the year, either in Regina or Saskatoon.

Thank you to Milton Wood, and Ron Babyck for their service on the board. Welcome to new members Blaine Crowely from Nipawin, and Stan Merasty from Prince Albert Grand Council.

Our 2013 Annual Golf Tournament will be held in Moose Jaw in June. Check the SWWA website for further information and registration when it is available.

Our fall conference in November was a great success. There were 535 delegates, 225 suppliers, and 104 booths for the trade show. Lots of networking, learning, and laughing took place.

A highlight of the conference was an inspirational address by guest speaker Michael “Pinball” Clemons.

The “Dale Heshka” award for Operator of the Year (population over 1000) was presented to Gloria Johnson from Estevan during the banquet at the conference. It was later discovered that Gloria had not been a member of the SWWA for 2012. This was one of the criteria for receiving the award and therefore the board had to request that Gloria return the award.

It in no way suggests that she was not deserving of this recognition, however we must follow the criteria set out in the guidelines.

It was my responsibility, as president, to check out the nominees. I apologize for not gathering all the required information before hand. I would like to thank Gloria for being so understanding in this situation. Due to these circumstances the Operator of the Year Award for over a 1000 will not be presented for 2012.
