Hi – my name is Kelly Kish. I live and work as a town foreman in Kipling. My wife Gloria and have 5 children (now adults). I’m a level 2 water and sewer operator.
I started working in the water and sewer industry back in 1991 as assistant foreman for the Town of Kipling. In 2001 I became foreman for the Town of Kipling. In early 1992 I became a member of SWWA. In 2004 I was elected to the SWWA Board of directors. At that time I was involved with setting up the entire Workshop for SWWA. After several years of dealing with workshops it was decided to hire Gus Feitzelmayer to become the SWWA training co-ordinator. At that time I took over the duties of secretary for the SWWA until 2010.
I left the Town of Kipling back in 2007 to work for Gee Bee Construction based out of Kipling to work as their water and sewer foreman. I have travelled to every end of the province installing water and sewer lines for new residential subdivisions for a lot of Saskatchewan operators who receive this very Pipeline (newsletter).
Back in November, 2010 I was elected to the Mayor position for the Town of Kipling and I enjoyed this very much because now I was looking at the needs of the community in a different kind of way and I can safely say I have seen the highs and lows in both sectors.
As Mayor I could see just how valuable operators are to each community. And as an operator how valuable we are to a community. As of September, 2011 the Town of Kipling was in need of a Town foreman which was proving a hard task to fill, so I decided to step down as Mayor and applied for the position and was hired. I had felt that this was and is my calling and just love this field of work. The added bonus is that I’m now working again right at home doing what I love.
I have just taken over the role of Vice President of SWWA and am looking forward to the position for the next 2 years at which time will become President. I have enjoyed my time with the SWWA organization over the past years and have made so many friends and colleagues and am looking forward to working with all the SWWA delegates in the future years to come.
I would also like to thank all of the past and present board members I have worked with. It has been great. If anyone has any concerns or question, please shoot off an e-mail or a phone call and I will be there to help in any way possible. I can be reached at glokel@sasktel.net or 1-306-736-8805
Thanks for now
Kelly Kish
