We are hiring two (2) Permanent Full Time, Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator positions working out of the Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) Wastewater Treatment Plant in Regina, SK.

Regina is located on Treaty 4 land and within the traditional territory of the Metis. What you’d be responsible for As a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator working in a highly technical facility, you are accountable for monitoring all ongoing operational aspects of the plant which includes ensuring plant operations conform with operating standards, regulatory approvals and procedures, and initiating control process adjustments in response to changing conditions.

Reporting to the Operations Lead Hand, the Operator 1 key accountabilities are, but not limited to: Overseeing process and equipment monitoring and control. Operating and inspecting various pieces of process equipment. Reviewing computerized operating and laboratory data. Performing general plant operational duties. Participating in plant process cleaning activities.

General duties of WWTP Operator 1 will also include: Performing routine and non-routine process configuration activities as required by Standard Operating Procedures, including lock-out/tag-out of process equipment and draining, de-pressurization and flushing of isolated equipment.

Conducting routine process control tests to optimize various processes throughout the plant. Performing daily rounds by inspecting the plant process and equipment and using the plant process control computer system.

Performing routine preventive maintenance activities as required by the Standard Operating Procedures. Testing and/or collecting, preparation and delivery of wastewater, sludge and other related samples to the laboratory.

Recording process information onto the daily operations log sheets and into the plant computer system.

Ensuring work permits and hazard assessments are completed and areas inspected before safe work can proceed.

Operation of tandem trucks and other equipment such as forklifts. Training will be provided if required.

The incumbent will be required to participate in On-Call duties, which will result in after-hours callouts.

What’s required to be successful Qualifications, experience and behaviours the successful candidate will possess are:

High school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education).

Level I or Level II Wastewater Treatment Operator certification preferred candidates with related WWTP plant experience, but not possessing this level of certification may be considered as a Non Certified Operator.

Previous experience in a wastewater treatment plant preferred.

Demonstrated proficiency in applicable computer process software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite of products (outlook, excel word, etc.).

Previous experience with asset management software and SCADA control systems will be considered an asset.

Must have a valid Class 3A driver's license or able to obtain a Class 3A driver's license within 3 months of date of hire. (with 6 demerits or less).

A 5 year Drivers Abstract will be required at the time of hire. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Clearance on pre- placement medical testing and drug & alcohol testing will be required. As the ideal candidate, the qualifications (skills and behaviours) listed above are supplemented with your ability to perform all functions within defined health, safety and environmental requirements and demonstrate a high level of independence and initiative.

You have highly developed written and verbal communication skills in order to develop and deliver both written and verbal reports and additionally, you have the analytical thinking/decision making and technical skills required to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

CUPE7667 Class: 2101 Wage: $29.76 - $31.51 Hours of work: 80 hours bi-weekly, Shifts/days vary. Overtime, weekend and shift work may be required. The successful candidate must also participate in the on-call rotation system.

Job Description: Position Overview:
The City of Prince Albert is now accepting applications for the Permanent position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in the Public Works Department.

Reporting to the Out-of-Scope Manager or designate, employees in this classification perform the duties without close supervision according to procedures defined by management and in accordance with government regulations.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties and Tasks
Perform certain specific tests and record results in a neat and orderly fashion.
Record and maintain certain instruments, dial and digital readings, gauge readings and level indicators.
Maintain all computerized records including proper backup of critical information and produce weekly, monthly and yearly reports.
Responsible for keeping the plant and grounds neat and orderly.
The Operator is responsible for the day to day operating procedures associated with the Pretreatment, Primary Treatment, Secondary Treatment, Sludge Management, Bio Solids Composter and Tertiary Treatment processes as well as Operation and maintenance of the Lift Stations.
Operators will assist with preventative maintenance and assist with the maintenance of equipment associated with the Wastewater Treatment facilities.
Operators will be required to operate some heavy equipment associated with the Wastewater Treatment Facilities.
Monitor and maintain the disinfection equipment and adjust to maintain a defined effluent standard.
Operators are required to do minor interior and exterior building maintenance.
Receive and assist in unloading chemicals and supplies.
Required to answer public inquiries, conduct tours of the plant and develop and maintain good public relations.
Assume responsibilities of the Plant Manager in their absence.
Follow Acts, Regulations, Bylaws, Agreements, policies and procedures.
Follow the Act, Regulations and policies of Occupational Health & Safety
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Post Secondary diploma in a relevant science or engineering discipline or current Class 2 Certification in Wastewater Treatment;
Maintain an independent course of study (supported by the City) to achieve a Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate within 5 years;
Grade 12 education; and
Valid Driver’s License.
